Review: Mockingjay

Mockingjay (The Final Book of The Hunger Games)
Title: Mockingjay
Author: Suzanne Collins
Series: The Hunger Games, #3

Goodreads Description: Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Gale has escaped. Katniss's family is safe. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. District 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding.

It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Capitol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plans -- except Katniss.

The success of the rebellion hinges on Katniss's willingness to be a pawn, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. To do this, she must put aside her feelings of anger and distrust. She must become the rebels' Mockingjay -- no matter what the personal cost.

I have to admit that I am very disappointed with this book.  This book was one of the most anticipated books of the year and I feel like it was a let down.  I was expecting an epic conclusion to the series and this book just didn't deliver.

First of all, the book started off a little slow.  It wasn't until almost half way through the book that I thought it got really interesting and I couldn't put it down.  The middle of the book was really good, like the other books were.  The end was horrible!  It left me with an unsettled feeling and very depressed.

The love triangle wasn't played out very well at all!  Even though the love triangle isn't the main plot of the book, I thought it deserved more attention than it received in this book.  I think we were all looking forward to an amazing conclusion to the whole Peeta vs. Gale debate and I don't think we got it in this book.  I felt like Collins used a cop-out to solve the issue of who Katniss should be with.

With that being said, I still can't give this book a bad rating.  I realize that I didn't like it because it didn't go the way I wanted it to.  I wanted a happily ever after ending with a more romance twist to it.  Collins version was probably more realistic.  She has created this world that is very harsh.  The characters in the book went through so many things that by the end they were just broken.  To have a happily ever after ending would probably be unrealistic.  So I have decided to rate this book on what it was and not what I wanted it to be.
